Single Parenting

Being a parent is a huge responsibility right from giving birth and then raising the tiny tot.Your spouse provide his guidance, emotional support,a helping hand and above all a great deal of confidence. But sometime it falls on a single shoulder due to divorce between the couple or pregnancy was planned out of wedlock, surrogacy, adoption or loss of loved ones resulting in rearing the child and life as whole.I was able to peep into some of these challenges while my husband was on travel for meeting his professional commitments. And I thought of writing about those challenges as a token of appreciation for all the hardships faced by single parents who fulfills all their responsibility and stand through thick and thin situations.

You are the decision maker as well the executor of all your decision. You need to ensure that all the requirements of your family are met, you need to deal with the overload of tasks that too efficiently, meet your career responsibilities and above all, deal with your emotional over load, not to overlook the emotional requirements of your baby.

Huge responsibility requires juggling between a series of work and finishing these work on time.Sending the kid to school, cooking, getting ready for office ,picking up your kid ,sending them of extra-curricular activities, feeding them etc are some of the import chores.

Sometime you need to be strict with your kids for making them disciplined and sometime you need to become their friend for them to become comfortable in confiding their inner feelings. You should devote your time on them. A single parent has to balance work and home all the more.
Financial problem is perhaps one of the biggest challenges faced by a single parent. You need to plan your entire expenses and yet have a savings through a single paycheck.

While going for work you need to make sure you have enough support at home to take care of your kids.A perfect day-care or a reliable person to take care of your kid.

Apart from juggling with the regular household chores, you must be there when your child needs you. It is a challenge to adjust your schedule and be completely involved with your child’s school activities. Your parenting skills, patience and understanding will constantly be put to test and it is a big challenge to instill discipline in your kids while you have to spend most of your hours outdoors.
Further, you need to ensure that the child does not feel isolated or ignored as it can spell doom for their all-round development.

Finally though a single parent has a lot of responsibility but when their child grows up they provide their heart-full of love, affection and care to their parents. They become a great kid and learn to do their work like brushing their teeth, taking bath, finishing their worksheets etc themselves very early compared to the kids of their age.The "emotional support" which single parents always wanted comes from their children.Kids develop a unique bond and respect for them.
